Carnival of Recipes: Anything Goes
And we've often rewound the clock,
Since the Puritans got a shock,
When they landed on Plymouth Rock.
If today,
Any shock they should try to stem,
'Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,
Plymouth Rock would land on them.
In olden days a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking,
But now, God knows,
Anything Goes.
Welcome to the August 12, 2007 edition of carnival of the recipes, Technogypsy's Anything Goes Edition. I can never heard that sound anymore without mentally seeing the scene from the Indiana Jones movie where a blonde in a red dress sings it in Mandarin. I actually hear it sung in Mandarin in real life in a both Chinese Martini bar in Phoenix a few years back by this lovely Chinese lady and by some old guy in a night club in Taipei.
Anyway, back to the carnival and food. I've never been really a fan of the idea of themes other than those applied by the host to amuse visitors visitors and flirt with Miss Shawn (and the other participants - flirting in the South is a contact sport.) So this week's theme is wide open and if we don't get enough weirdness, well I got some of my own to add...
We starting off with a download of an Insta-Carnival. It's not related to Glenn Reynolds and no puppies were harmed in making it (we don't make that promise about cats - we love cats at our house, braised with brandy sauce) but it's something that the fine folks at Blog Carnival have added to their site. It sure made this easier on my end, so if hosting for Miss Shawn looked like too much work in the past, that excuse is gone. Heck, I wasn't even caffeinated when I did this.
Good authors too who once knew better words,
Now only use four letter words
Writing prose, Anything Goes.
Even with that as an excuse I've chattered too much so on to the food. They are posted in the order received as the ouzo was calling me today.... Ouzo and Ice - the best way to survive a Texas summer.
Lucynda Riley presents Making Sun Dried Tomatoes posted at Quietly Into the Night.
Anne-Marie presents Goodbye to writing prompts and hello to lunch boxes posted at A Readable Feast.
Amanda presents Quick and Easy Monday Night Pasta posted at Eat... and Be Merry.
Lisa of Chasing Grace has this recipe for Simple Sausage and Rice. Looks great. Wanna make that sausage yourself? Look over here.
Lucynda Riley presents Basil Bread and an Abundant Harvest. posted at Quietly Into the Night.
GP presents The Chicken or the Egg ? posted at Fish Creek House - Inside Innkeeping, saying, "In the course of running our b&b, 'Ive eaten a lot of scrambled eggs. I've gone dozens of articles and scoured the internet to find the perfect recipe and method to create what - for all appearances - would seem like the easiest dish in the world to make. The quest to scramble the perfect eggs..." Hmmm. We'd add bacon here. The kids eat anything with bacon...
The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today,
And black's white today,
And day's night today,
When most guys today
That women prize today
Are just silly gigolos
And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
When you propose,
Anything goes
And speaking of someone who gets a yes here for anything she proposes, our Carnival mistress, Shawn Lea, sends in this recipe from her blog, Everything and Nothing, for Watercress and Watermelon Salad. (Actually the Naughty Girl Scout post sounded good too. It's cookie so don't get all flustered like I did.)
Michelle Mitchell presents Coq au Vin Rosettes posted at scribbit| A Blog About Motherhood in Alaska.
Host Bee presents Crazy for Bacon posted at Busy Bee Lifestyle. Hmmm. Bacon. Who was it who said a serving of bacon is whatever was cooked? Upper limit not required.
Amanda Harris presents Pajama Mommy Recipes: Spinach Rounds posted at Pajama Mommy.
Annette Berlin presents 5 Easy Whole-Meal Sandwiches posted at Frugal Journey, saying, "We make a lot of sandwiches over at our house. They’re fast, easy and we eat them when we don’t have time to make a “real” meal. Sandwiches are our version of convenience food."
Andrew lee presents Sweet Recipes! : sweetworthy posted at sweetworthy.com, saying, "Sweet Recipes. Thanks for looking! These are recipes dedicated to making desserts"

When grandmama whose age is eighty
In night clubs is getting matey with gigolos,
Anything Goes.
When mothers pack and leave poor father
Because they decide they'd rather be tennis pros,
Anything Goes.
Well she didn't actually leave and become a tennis pro, but she did look rather askew at Venison Heart. We cooked up the one from Ben's first deer, which is an old family custom, and it was pretty good this way. Better than when I had to roast mine on an open fire... it did teach me to find wild onion and garlic.
Stephanie presents Too Much Zucchini? posted at Stop the Ride!.
DeputyHeadmistress presents The Common Room: Chocolate Chip Cookies for a Crowd posted at The Common Room, saying, "Make a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies"Thelly presents Cajun Chicken Recipes posted at Chicken Recipes - Recipes for Chicken.
Karen - Thrifty Mommy presents Mandarin Orange Salad posted at Balance In Diet, saying, "No need to heat up the stove in the summer when you can enjoy a nice cool salad." Personally we use a grill in the summer but I sure understand about not wanting to dump heat into the house.
Kevin Weeks presents Cece Fritos posted at Seriously Good.
NH Mind from A New Hampshire State of Mind sends us a recipe for Summer Sunday Sangria. Now normally I'd express doubts about a sangria from Yankee Land but this week:
If driving fast cars you like,
If low bars you like,
If old hymns you like,
If bare limbs you like,
If Mae West you like
Or me undressed you like,
Why, nobody will oppose!
When every night,
The set that's smart
Is intruding in nudist parties in studios,
Anything Goes.
Kathee presents Chicken with Sourdough-Mushroom Stuffing posted at Chicken Recipes.
Thai Recipes presents Thai Red Chicken Curry Recipe posted at Thai Cooking - The Taste of Thailand. I'm going to ahve to ask my graduate student from Thailand if she approves of this one. It sounds great.Kathee presents Chicken Recipes - CURRIED COCONUT CHICKEN posted at Famous Recipes. Hmmm.

Julian says "Anything goes? This should go quickly" and sends us Tiramisu With Crunchy Roasted Apricots from Gourmet a go-go.
Jade, whose blog Cooking for 2 is full of recipes, suggests Crockpot Kielbasa. She also comments that the Crockpot is her favorite kitchen appliance.
Actually I prefer a 15 year old kid myself.
Speaking of a 15 year old kid, not only is he making carrot cake as I type this, he'll eat liver and onion sandwiches with me too.

FitBuff presents What Should I Eat Before and After My Workout? posted at FitBuff.com's Total Mind and Body Fitness Blog, saying, "Some of the great chefs out there could incorporate some of these same techniques to make your own pre- and post-workout dishes." Workouts? Like exercises? But that takes time from cooking!

saying, "Okay, my favorite Dark Cloud, here it is; let me know if you want
to try it, I got a ton of blueberries in the freezer from an East TX
trip. Hope you like the recipe name, it pretty much describes my
feelings today..." I'm sorry, dear heart, how about trying the below advice?
If green pears you like
If old chairs you like,
If back stairs you like,
If love affairs you like
With young bears you like,
Why nobody will oppose!
And if you like hanging out with old bears, y'all come back and visit. That's it for this week. Next week we're all going to Anywhere but here. The theme is recipes from places you don't live. Submit your post to the next edition of
