AAPS in San Diego, CA

The last three days I have been at the AAPS Meeting in San Diego. The weather has just been perfect, sunny, warm, and dry with a azure sky and blue ocean. The science has been amazing as is normal at this show. Considering this industry is the most heavily regulated of any of the sciences and at least a third of the sessions deal with regulatory issues, the fact anything gets done is amazing. When the Democrats get their way and start the price controls on drugs and drug company profits, it will change for the worse but for now its a very heady experience.  John Carpenter of U. Co was honored for his work on protein formulations Monday. My time in his lab learning about why they used DSC was a fascinating time.

I was unable to connect with Mark, "Red", or DaGoddess this trip. Times just didn't work out. I did find this lovely Greek place, Athena Market Tarvena, on F Street. The food was good enough that after the tripokita, little cheese filler triangles of filo dough, and the sampler plate of stuffed grape leaves, lamp chops, and three other dishes the first night I went back.  I took Derrick, a relocated Denver-ite from John's lab, there for dinner. Niether he nor his friends would tried the grilled octopi with me. That was okay as it left more of them for me. Cooked with spices, olive oil, and loads of gralic over charcoal, they were probably the best octopi I've had. Dinner was the braised lamb shank over pasta, the beverage was ouzo over ice, and dessert was a collection of Greek cookies with coffee. It's a warm friendly place with the owner of 32 years, Mary, still working the floor.  Definitely a place to stop when in town. I may go back for lunch today...
