UK Trip - The first few days alone

July 5th I got dropped at DFW for my next UK trip by the family and a very unhappy poodle. She really gets upset when I travel: She appears to think I'm dumb and forget to come home. The flight overwasun-eventful and I arrived Sunday about noon, ready for my first British car rental. I had plans of running out to Oxford and then down to Uffington to White Horse Vale.

The M40 changed that. I hit some road debris, got a flat tyre by Denham, and spent the next two hours looking at the above before the REA van came and changed it. It was too torn up to repair so I was told not to drive a lot. So I spent the remaining afternoon at the Ethorpe's pub.  The lamb shepard's pie was hearty and just the thing for what feels like a cold wet Texas winter.

The next morning I limped into Uxbridge to find a Kwikfit Tyre store. I still managed to make it into the office by 10 and the day was fairly prodictive. The driving on the left is a but scary but worth it as I can pull over places and get photos. Hopefully the rain will stop for a bit before I got home because there are some lovely country scenes around the office.

Wednesday I took the train into London to visit King's College. The school of Health Sciences is just across the circle from Waterloo Station, so it was a quick trip in. I met with Dr.Royall and Dr. Saunders who are using our

instruments and got the cook's tour of the facilities. After getting back and having the mixed grill - steak, sausage, black pudding, chicken, gammon steak, and lamb - I got some groceries for the boys and settled in to wait for the goddess and cubs to arrive. Hopefully, they won't be too late becasue my train to Warrington leaves tomorrow at 6 am.

car hiring is certainly becoming more and more attractive these days…why own a car with all the hassle when you can rent a car and see the world!

Well, the fact I needed three service calls on it tends to make me think next time I am taking the train. I was actually more pleasantly surprised by the train service in the UK, much more so than by the car rental. The car rental was probably the worst experience with a rental car I've ever had.
