Paris -Day 2

Noah and I got an early start - well, actually I dragged his tail out protesting the whole time - after a restful night. We started off taking the Metro to the Arch of Triumph, where after the tour we found another cafe for breakfast and coffee.  Really good coffee.  I hadn't realized how huge the Arch is: there is a three story museum in it!

We then headed over to the Eiffel Tower and found the upper decks were closed for repair. It didn't seem worthwhile to go up to the bottom level, so we walked over to the Ecole d'Armes.

We found a bakery for a snack - another filled pastries of some type- and then headed to the Opera Building.

After a quick trip back to the hotel for dry clothes, we went out to find the church for tonights service and then to Notre Dame. On the way to the church, we passed through a open air market where we purchase roast veal rack, hot pork sausage, bread, fresh goat cheese with chives, pears, and some mineral water for lunch. The veal was a hit and I dang near last a finger trying to get my share from the kid. (The shop was nice enough to cut it into large pieces for us when we asked.)  The pears, a variety I didn't recognize, were very crisp and very juicy at the same time.

After our little picnic, where Noah would not let me buy the Calvados as the drink, we found St. Genvieve's Orthodox Church. It's a small mission you need to be looking for. We went in and reverenced the tomb and warned them we would be back tonight. We then headed over to St. Michel's fountain and Notre Dame.  Thanks to the rain, the lines were short. Notre Dame can not really be shown by any photo I can take. To quote some writer, it is a "forest of stone" or "a great carved gem"

We then walked back across the isle and though a street of flower vendors. For about four blocks, every store seemed to be selling flowers, herbs, and trees. There were crepe and waffle vendors and one pet store, which was poodle free. Flowers are everywhere in Paris and everything is in bloom. Even as gray as it is today, the colors are amazing. You will be walking down a street, and a park explodes at you in full color. On the way home, we hit a street vendor for waffles and Noah tried a milles or amaire - I think we call them Napoleons.
