Ben's off to the Jamboree

We dropped Ben at Terminal E at 4 am this morning to meet his troop for the flight to the National Jamboree in Virginia. This is a big one as its also the 100th year of Scouting in America. Now politically incorrect for various reasons that some of us feel are excuses, Scouting is still the best program I've seen to turn boys into young men and teach them to be self-reliant citizens. (Actually that last is probably the real reason.) Fortunately, it's still very popular outside the left-wing enclaves of the coasts and among those of us not part of the elite.

The combined troop leaves today at 5 am for Baltimore, and after a few days of touring historical sites around DC, they hwad out to the Jamboree. Ben plans to visit the ABANA folks working at metalworking merit badge booth, hopes to make the Orthodox services (he needs to convince a buddy to go too), and will look up the NAMS group. He's as excited as Ben admits to getting.

We'll update this with text messages as they come in.

UPDATED:  Better photos from Ms. Tonya, who was also flying out that day.
