Philly - Wet, humid, rainy
The next couple of days weren't as nice. It got humidity, rainy, and warm - a dense sticky weather that was just bad. The seminar went well and U. Penn is a lovely campus.

Walking around the downtown area, one finds lots of little parks include this one hidden between buildings and with this neat ironwork gate.

I managed to find Chinatown for dinner - complete with a gate,

dragon fire house, and a kosher veggie Chinese restaurant. The old YMCA is amazing. It looks like something out of old Beijing...

and the local firehouse is called the "House of Dragons"

and you know that melting pot theory...it's working to some degree

or so the Vegetarian Kosher Chinese place suggests (a sign in the window says Halaal too)

UPDATE 2010-9-21: The gate above was made by Chris Ray. Lovely work - and perfect for a little city park. Thanks to Randy McDaniel for the info.
