Forge Welding Day 4 - Dragon heads, tongs, and Axe heads

Randy demonstrated making a hammer using faggot welds, jump welds, and a bird's mouth weld; a dragon's head welding on the horns, and a bundle weld to make an octopus coat hanger.

Moving back to coal, I was able to do the drop the tongs weld and also made a mini-axe head as practice. (I'm setting the steel into the bird's mouth below.)

After that, we did the normal school photo think with our products. Mine include the poker, a few lumps for hammer heads, a love letter opener,  half a set of tongs, the ax (on top), and some practice welds...

Final comments: A great course with an excellent instructor. The facilities were excellent - probably the nicest set up I've seen with no shortage of tools - and the staff of the NESM very helpful. I learned a ton of stuff from both Dereck and Hunter as well as Randy and my class mates.  I'd definitely go back, even it is in Yankee land.
