Ben's UK Trip - Summary

On the Monday, I had to see a customer and Ben tagged along to Leeds to see the Royal Armoury. We met a friend Jenn in Leeds, who acted as his tour guide.

Leeds has tons of old Victorian building, all towers and spires, with lots of lovely iron work like these wyverns (the red dragons holding up the top level.)

The Royal Armoury is on a canal and actually has directions for where to dock if you want to visit by boat.

Ben looks at a suit of elephant armour.

Ben said the museum was almost too much - it's 3 floors of panaromas, weapon displays, and interactive exibits. We, as texans,  found the self defense section, which should have been call "all guns evil, all knives bad" amusing in some ways and scary in its emphasis on the state will protect you.

Tuesday, I visited a supplier in London and Ben went to the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as the Science Museum before we had dinner at Mon Plasuir with Miss Donnla. The Victoria and Albert Museum in some ways feels like an attic.

Ben in the hall of casting - overwhelming cluttered with casting of all sorts of stuff.

The Hall of Scuplture - like I said attic...

My Olympus finally died so a lot of these are off, being shot with a pocket camera. However the work on the blades was amazing (Persian section, VAM)

The tube stop at South Kensington should be labeled "museums." We found at least 5 more in an easy walk from the VAM. The Science Museum has a huge exhibit on energy being converted to work, with all these lovely steam driven machines that call to the Steampuke in me.

Wednesday Ben crashed while I went to the office. We finally got our dose of Indian food at Malik's in Gerrards Cross.  Thursday we split at the Airport where I went to see a supplier in the Netherlands and Ben headed back to Texas.
