ABS School Day 4 - we make bowies...

Today we forged bowie, one hidden tang and one full tang. I got both forged but haven't ground them for hardening yet. Tomorrow, we grind them and the other blades to 100 grit and heat treat them. The Bowies I believe are to be sacrificed to see how well they perform. Some of my classmates are a bit ahead and some not, but aparently tomorrow afternoon is spent destroying our work to see if it's any good.

Pointing a bowie blank and belowing heating blades to draw out the tangs.

Grinding the final surface for heat treating...

And for Ben, a field of Queen Anne's Lace.  The wild flowers are really out and I've seen at least 6 we didn't find when collecting them, including some lovely purple thistles.
