Off to Venice and the Doge's Palace

I slept in and left at 10 for the train to Venice. A small series of adventures got me here a bit after one pm after a lovely ride thru farmland with 500 old farm houses. Arriving at the Venice train station, I first had to find a water taxi. No land route to my hotel. Below is the view from the station.

On the water taxi, we went under bridges,,,

pass little side canals,

by St. Mary's Church

and I saw gondolas with the singing rowers.

The cab dropped me by the Cathedral of St. Mark,

I couldn't get in today - the line was huge - but they hold services in the morning...

It is next to the Doge's Palace, which I did get into.

The gate of St. Mark - the overpass leads to the Church.

The Great Stair with it's twin statues.

The walkway outside the Doge's apartments.

And if you look out one of the windows, behind it all life goes on.

Looking at the Church of St. George from the Counsel Chamber.

The armoury was great - lots of lovely work...

After all, I walked back to my hotel and found we had a walk taxi gate....
